Недочеты традиционных свинцовых аккумуляторных батарей определены тем, что содержащаяся в сплаве позитивных токоотводов сурьма потихоньку, по мере их коррозии, через раствор переходит на поверхность негативного электрода.
Осаждение большого числа сурьмы на поверхности негативной энергичной массы снижает напряжение на электродах аккумуляторной батареи, при котором начинается разложение влаги на водород и кислород.
Следственно, в конце процесса заряда и при маленьком перезаряде, происходит выделение газа, которое сопровождается «кипением» электролита в итоге электролитического разложения входящей в него влаги.
За последние 20-25 лет, по мере улучшения оборудования, возникло несколько разновидностей аккумуляторных батарей так называемого «необслуживаемого» типа.
Их главная отличительная черта - применение сплавов с пониженным включением сурьмы либо совсем без нее для выпуска токоотводов.
Усовершенствование конструкции при создании необслуживаемых АКБ заключается еще и в том, что для увеличения резерва электролита без метаморфозы высоты аккумуляторной батареи, 1 из аккумуляторных электродов помещают в сепаратор-конверт, тот, что изготовлен из микропористого полиэтиленового материала с низким электросопротивлением.
В этом случае замыкание электродов разной полярности, при отсутствии сбоев в работе сборочного оборудования, фактически исключено.
Следственно опорные призмы становятся непотребными, и блок электродов можно установить прямо на дно ячейки моноблока.
В итоге та часть электролита, которая прежде находилась в шламовом пространстве между призмами и не принимала участия в работе автомобильного аккумулятора, сейчас находится над электродами и пополняет его резерв, расходуемый при эксплуатации.
Изначально такие аккумуляторной батареи начали выпускать в Соединенных штатах на базе свинцово-кальциевого сплава (0,07-0,1% Ca; 0,1-0,12% Sn; остальное - Pb) для токоотводов, позитивного и негативного электродов.
Это сократило выделение газа, что обеспечило эксплуатацию АКБ без доливки воды в течение как минимум 2-х лет.
Расход влаги у этих автомобильных аккумуляторов так мал, что конструкторы убрали из крышек отверстия для доливки влаги и сделали аккумуляторной батареи на все 100% необслуживаемыми.
При этом самозаряд аккумуляторных батарей замедлился свыше чем в 6 раз.
Тем не менее, при нескольких больших разрядах такие АКБ стремительно теряют емкость и их стартерные особенности круто снижаются, из-за чего они не обнаружили широкого распространения в Европе и РФ.
В это же время в соединенных штатах возникли аккумуляторной батареи системы «кальций плюс» (гибридные) с оглавлением до 1,5-1,8% сурьмы и 1,4-1,6% кадмия в плюсовом токоотводе и свинцово-кальциевым негативным токоотводом.
Параметры этих аккумуляторных батарей по расходу влаги и саморазряду вдвое лучше, чем у малосурьмяных, однако все еще не такие отменные, как у свинцово-кальциевых.
К началу восьмидесятых годов производство необслуживаемых автомобильных аккумуляторов стало стремительно прогрессировать в странах Европы.
Однако там пошли по пути использования сплавов с пониженным до 2,5-3,0% оглавлением сурьмы.
Но, у таких АКБ расход влаги и саморазряд в 2-3 раза выше, чем у аккумуляторных батарей с кальциевыми токоотводами.
Позднее и в Европе возникли так называемые гибридные аккумуляторной батареи.
Наконец, в конце девяностых годов и в соединенных штатах, и в Западной Европе началось производство автомобильных аккумуляторов с токоотводами из свинцово-кальциевого сплава с добавкой новых легирующих компонентов, в том числе серебра, которые не опасаются больших разрядов.
В российской федерации производятся необслуживаемые аккумуляторной батареи емкостью от 44 до 90 А·ч с токоотводами из малосурьмяного сплава с оглавлением сурьмы 1,7-3,0%.
Следует подметить, что эксплуатация аккумуляторных батарей без отверстий для доливки влаги требует свыше точной работы системы энергосбережения кара, а также свыше внимательного отношения автовладельцев к состоянию и исправной работе электрооборудования.
В первую очередь это касается натяжения ремня привода генератора и исправности самого генератора, а также регулятора напряжения.
Негативно сказывается на состоянии автомобильных аккумуляторов последнего поколения и присутствие утрат электричества в системе электрооборудования либо сигнализацию.
Подавляющее множество аккумуляторов, поступающих из стран Европы, производят, обычно, в гибридном исполнении, либо с токоотводами обеих полярностей из свинцово-кальциевых сплавов.
При производстве сухозаряженных аккумуляторных батарей многие изготовители используют для электродов обеих полярностей малосурьмяные сплавы, где сурьмы всего 1,6-1,8%.
